Some of the largest single sources of VOC emissions originate from the loading of crude oil and condensate. The VOC emissions depend on the properties of the crude oil and the loading rate. Typical VOC figures are in the order of 2 kg vapours per tonne of loaded oil. These emissions occur wherever crude oil is transferred. Whether it is off-shore at the oil field or on-shore at the terminal.
World’s largest VRU
In recent years ASCS has supplied a substantial number of Vapour Recovery Units – VRU’s for maritime VOC recovery applications. Both in off-shore facilities and on-shore crude oil terminals. In 2008 ASCS has supplied the world’s largest VRU to Statoil in Mongstad Norway. This is unit is applied for recovering vapours originating from the ship loading of crude oil. The VRU is designed to handle a continuous vapour flow rate of 36.000 m³/hr.
