Certain chemicals, like acids, are particularly aggressive or corrosive to vents of metal construction. For these products, Protectoseal offers a full line of pressure and/or vacuum relief devices manufactured from non-metallic materials.
The vents are available in
-
Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
-
Thermoplastic Resin (PVC, POLYPROPLYENE & PVDF).
These materials will ensure a long service life in chemically hostile environments. They may be considered as the perfect alternative of vents protected by coatings or manufactured from exotic metals.
Spring loaded vents
Protectoseal has developed a series of spring-loaded vents to meet the need for higher operating pressures. The settings range from 0,2 to 0,83 barg. The spring-loaded units are available in many of the configurations and materials of construction as the weight-loaded units. The range includes pressure relief vents, vacuum relief vents and combined pressure/vacuum relief vents.
Depending on the size and the setting required, Protectoseal will furnish one, two or three springs of appropriate rating. This will achieve accuracy of initial setting, smoothness of operation and maximum flow capacity.
Clamp-on jacketing
Steam jacketing is commonly used on tanks containing liquids whose vapours tend to crystallize at ambient temperatures. Examples are Naphthalene, Maleic Anhydride, DMT and Phthalic Anhydride. In cold climates, jacketing prevents freezing and plugging.
Protectoseal have designed clamp-on steam jackets for their breather valves and a number of flame arresters. The standard carbon steel jackets are rated for 10 bar at 425 °C and have the following advantages:
-
lighter than conventional jackets; as such there is less stress on the piping system
-
eliminates the danger of cross contamination between product and heating medium
-
easy removal for maintenance or repair in the field
-
the entire jacket is a heating chamber rather than a small chamber embedded in f.i. an aluminium casting.
