Storage tanks and processing equipment for hazardous liquids are provided with a range of safety devices. These devices conserve and control volatile vapours and as such protect the equipment against fire and explosion.
Pressure and vacuum relief vents
These vents are specifically designed to prevent storage tank damage by relieving internal pressure and vacuum accumulations. The variations occur as a result of day-to-day operations (filling, emptying and atmospheric temperature changes). Pressure and vacuum relief valves also minimize product evaporation losses.
Emergency relief vents
In case of fire emergency vents prevent the catastrophic rupture of a storage tank. The emergency vents relieve the internal pressure accumulation caused by external fire involvement of the tank.
Flame and detonation arresters
Flame and detonation arresters provide a positive barrier against the propagation of a flame. This can be either through a piping system or into a storage tank’s vapour space.
Tank blanketing valves
Blanketing valves sense the pressure in a tank’s vapour space. By regulating a supply of pressurized inert gas a desired pressure range may be consistently maintained in the tank.
